Cookie Policy

Effective: 6 August 2026  |  Version 3.0
Privacy Terms Security Cookies Sub-processors

1. What This Policy Covers

Short Form Nation, Inc., doing business as SFN AI ("SFN AI," "we," "us," or "our"), uses cookies and similar technologies. This policy explains what we use, why, who else receives data through them, and how you turn the advertising ones off.

It covers two surfaces: this marketing website at shortformnation.com, and the signed-in application at app.shortformnation.com. Several things on this page apply to only one of the two. Where that is the case, it says so, because the difference is real and you should not have to guess.

This policy adds cookie-specific detail to our Privacy Policy, which is the fuller statement of how we handle personal information. Read the two together. On any conflict about the handling of personal information, the Privacy Policy controls over this policy.

This version replaces the Cookie Policy dated December 15, 2025. That version listed technologies we do not run and described controls that did not exist. This one is written against what is actually deployed.

2. What Cookies and Similar Technologies Are

A cookie is a small text file a site stores on your device so it can recognize that device on a later request. "Similar technologies" means anything that does the same job by another mechanism. We treat all of them the same way in this policy.

  • Cookies, first-party (set by shortformnation.com or app.shortformnation.com) and third-party (set by another company's domain through code we load).
  • Pixels and tags, which are small image or script requests to a third party that carry identifiers in the request itself.
  • Local storage and session storage, which store data in your browser without using a cookie header.

3. What We Use Them For

  • Keep you signed in and keep your session secure.
  • Measure how people find and move through our pages, so we can fix and improve them.
  • Measure whether an advertisement or campaign led to a signup or a booked call.
  • Build advertising audiences and show you SFN AI advertising on other sites and apps.
  • Record how the application is used, so we can find and fix problems in the product. Section 6 describes this in full, because it is a recording and not a counter.
  • Record your advertising opt-out, so we can honour it on your next visit.

The third and fourth of those involve disclosing identifiers to companies outside SFN AI. That is addressed squarely in Section 7, which is the part of this policy to read if you care about advertising.

We do not use cookies to make automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects about you.

4. Categories

CategoryWhat it doesCan you turn it off
Strictly necessary Sign-in, session integrity, security, and storing your advertising opt-out. Without these the service does not work, and we could not honour a choice you made. No. These are set regardless of any choice, because the service cannot be delivered without them.
Analytics and product measurement Counts visits, measures which pages and features are used, and records how the application is used so we can fix problems. Through your browser settings, and through the vendor opt-outs in Section 10.
Advertising, including cross-context behavioral advertising Measures whether an ad led to a signup, builds audiences, and lets advertising partners show you SFN AI advertising elsewhere. This category involves sharing under Section 7. Yes. See Section 8.

We treat the record of your opt-out as strictly necessary. If you tell us not to share your information for advertising, we have to store that instruction somewhere, and that store is a first-party entry in your browser.

5. What Is Actually Running

First-party storage

  • Sign-in and session storage, set by the application at app.shortformnation.com. These keep you signed in and keep the session secure. They last for your session or until your sign-in expires. Strictly necessary.
  • sfn_privacy_optout, a local storage entry set by this website when you use the "Your Privacy Choices" control. It records whether you opted out of sharing for advertising. It has no expiry date and stays in that browser until you clear your browsing data. Strictly necessary.

PostHog Product analytics and session recording inside the application. Hosted in the European Union. See Section 6 Application Analytics

That is the whole list. Anything you may have seen on an older version of this page and do not see here is no longer in use.

How long these last

The lifetime of a third-party cookie is set by the vendor, not by us, and vendors change their defaults. Rather than publish numbers we cannot stand behind, we will tell you where to read the real ones: every browser lists the exact expiry of every cookie on a site under its cookie or site-data settings. The two periods we do set ourselves are stated above and in Section 11: session recordings are kept for 30 days, and the record of your opt-out has no expiry.

6. Session Recording in the Application

This is a different kind of measurement from a page counter, so we disclose it separately rather than leaving it inside the word "analytics."

Inside the signed-in application at app.shortformnation.com, PostHog records sessions. A recording captures the pages you viewed, what you clicked, and text typed into our own screens. It is linked to your account rather than being anonymous. Recordings are hosted in the European Union and are kept for 30 days, after which they are deleted.

Two limits apply, and both are real rather than aspirational:

  • Input masking is enabled, so text entered into form fields is masked in the recording rather than stored in the clear.
  • The payout and identity screens are not captured. Those screens are served by our payments partner inside a separate cross-origin frame, which a recording cannot see into. Bank details, taxpayer identification numbers and identity documents entered there do not appear in any recording.

Session recording runs in the application, not on this marketing website. If you would rather it did not apply to your account, email tad@shortformnation.com.

7. Selling and Sharing Under US State Privacy Law

7.1 We do not sell your information for money

SFN AI does not sell personal information for monetary consideration.

7.2 We do share it for advertising, and we are going to say so

Under the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended, "sharing" is a separate activity from "selling." Sharing means disclosing personal information to a third party for cross-context behavioral advertising, whether or not any money changes hands. Several other states reach the same conduct under the label "targeted advertising," including Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, Texas and Oregon.

Our disclosures to Google Ads, TikTok, LinkedIn and Rewardful are that activity. When one of those tags fires on your browser it makes an identifier available to that partner, and that partner can use it to recognize you elsewhere and to show you SFN AI advertising there. That is sharing for California purposes and targeted advertising under the other state laws named above. We state it plainly here rather than describing it only as "marketing" or "attribution."

7.3 So you have a right to opt out

If you live in a state whose law provides the right, you may opt out of the sharing of your personal information and of targeted advertising. If you do not, we will honour your request anyway. We do not ask you to prove where you live in order to turn advertising off, and we do not require an account. Section 8 is how.

7.4 What an opt-out does and does not do

An opt-out stops the advertising and audience-building disclosures described in this section. It does not sign you out, does not delete information already disclosed before you opted out, and does not stop strictly necessary storage. It does not stop advertising entirely either. You may still see SFN AI advertising; it just will not be targeted using data disclosed from our surfaces.

7.5 Non-discrimination

We do not deny you service, charge you a different price, or give you a lower quality of service because you exercised a privacy right.

8. Your Choices

8.1 There is no consent banner, and that is deliberate

SFN AI is directed to the United States, where the rule is opt-out rather than opt-in. So we do not put a blocking banner in front of the page and ask you to accept something before you can read it. Advertising tags run by default and stop when you opt out. Everything in this section is a way of opting out.

Google Consent Mode v2 defaults are set before our tag manager loads, so an opt-out you have already recorded, or a Global Privacy Control signal from your browser, is applied to Google tags from the first request on the page rather than after they have fired.

8.2 The three routes

  • "Your Privacy Choices." A control in the footer of every page on this website. It sets and stores your opt-out for that browser.
  • Global Privacy Control. This is a setting your browser or a browser extension sends automatically to every site you visit, telling each one not to sell or share your personal information. We honour it on this website. It is applied without asking you to confirm and without requiring an account, and it outranks a stored choice, because a browser signal is a live request and a stored value may be stale.
  • Email. Write to tad@shortformnation.com with the subject line "Do not sell or share my personal information." We will treat it as an opt-out of sharing and of targeted advertising.

8.3 Where these controls work, and where they do not

The "Your Privacy Choices" control and Global Privacy Control handling are live on shortformnation.com. They are not yet live in the application at app.shortformnation.com. To apply an opt-out in the application, email tad@shortformnation.com and we will apply it to your account. This matters, because the advertising tags in Section 5 run on both surfaces. An opt-out recorded here does not reach the application on its own.

A choice made through the footer control applies to the browser and device you made it on, because that is where the record is stored. Use another browser, another device, or a private window and you will need to make it again. Clearing your browsing data also clears the record of your opt-out.

8.4 Notice at collection

Every form on this website carries a short notice, at the point you fill it in, saying what we collect it for, how long we keep it, and how to opt out of advertising. You should not have to open a policy page to find that out.

9. Do Not Track

Do Not Track is an older browser header. There is no common industry standard for interpreting it and it has been effectively abandoned, so we do not respond to it. That does not limit the controls in Section 8, and in particular it does not limit our handling of Global Privacy Control, which is a different signal and one we do honour.

10. Browser and Vendor Controls

You can also control cookies in your browser. Blocking all cookies will break sign-in and parts of the service.

  • Chrome: Settings > Privacy and security > Third-party cookies
  • Safari: Settings > Privacy
  • Firefox: Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data
  • Edge: Settings > Cookies and site permissions

These opt-outs are operated by the vendors, not by us, so we cannot guarantee they work or keep working:

  • Google Analytics opt-out add-on: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout
  • Google ad settings: adssettings.google.com
  • LinkedIn ad settings: linkedin.com/psettings/advertising
  • TikTok ad personalization: in the TikTok app, Settings and privacy > Ads
  • Industry opt-outs: optout.aboutads.info and optout.networkadvertising.org

11. How Long We Keep This Data

  • Session recordings: 30 days.
  • Other data collected through the technologies on this page: 12 months.
  • The record of your opt-out: no expiry. It stays in your browser until you clear it, because deleting it would mean forgetting your instruction.
  • When a relationship with us ends: personal data that identifies you is deleted within 30 days.
  • De-identified, aggregated data that does not identify anyone is kept indefinitely.

12. Who Receives This Data

Our current sub-processors, what each one receives, and where each one processes are published at shortformnation.com/subprocessors. That page is kept current and dated. We do not duplicate it here, so that it can change without an amendment to this policy.

Some of those companies process data in a country other than the one you are in. The sub-processor page states the processing location for each. Not every company named in Section 5 is a sub-processor, and not every sub-processor sets a cookie, so the two lists overlap without being identical.

13. Where We Operate

SFN AI is directed to the United States. We do not target the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom and we have no users there, so this policy is written against United States state privacy law rather than against an opt-in consent regime. Nothing on this page is a representation that we are established in, or offer services into, the EEA or the UK.

14. Age

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account or use the SFN AI platform and services. The platform is not directed to children.

Separately, and as a statement about data collection rather than a permission: this website is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from a child under 13, including through cookies. If we learn that we have, we will take reasonable steps to address it, including deleting the information. California requires opt-in consent before sharing the personal information of a consumer under 16, and we have no actual knowledge of doing so.

Nothing in this section permits any person to use the SFN AI platform and services who is not otherwise permitted to do so.

15. Security

Cookies we set for authentication are protected by the measures described on our Security page. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

16. Changes to This Policy

We update this policy when our tag stack changes, when a vendor changes, or when the law changes. The effective date at the top tells you which version you are reading. If we materially expand what we disclose for advertising, we will update this page before the change takes effect.

Your Privacy Choices

We share limited information with advertising and analytics partners so we can measure our campaigns and show SFN AI ads on other sites. Under California law and comparable state laws this counts as sharing for targeted advertising, and you can opt out.

Your browser is sending a Global Privacy Control signal. We have already applied your opt-out. You do not need to do anything else.

This applies to this browser on this device, because that is where the choice is stored. It does not stop strictly necessary cookies, and it does not delete information already shared before you opted out. You can also email tad@shortformnation.com and we will apply it without asking you to create an account. More detail is in our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy.
